Dear Parent
We have received confirmation that we have at least one child at the moment with a confirmed case of Scarlet Fever. Please see information below from Public Health. If your child presents with any of these symptoms, please keep them off School as a precautionary measure and seek medical advice as detailed below, and keep us updated:-
Scarlet Fever
Over the past week, a number of schools across Cumbria have reported confirmed or suspected cases of scarlet fever. This reflects the trend nationally, where we are seeing unseasonably high level of the illness.
For more information see our one minute guide: Scarlet Fever - One Minute Guide (cumbria.gov.uk)

Important information to know about scarlet fever:
- Scarlet fever needs to be treated with a 10-day course of antibiotics, therefore parents should seek medical advice from a GP or by telephoning 111 if they suspect their child may have scarlet fever.
- Children diagnosed with scarlet fever can return to the setting 24 hours after starting antibiotic treatment. It is important they complete the whole course of antibiotics.
- Children with scarlet fever who do not take antibiotics, or start antibiotics late on in their infection can be infectious for up to 2-3 weeks and may be advised to stay away from school or their early years setting to reduce the risk of infecting others.
- Children who have had chickenpox recently are more likely to develop more serious infection if they catch scarlet fever.
Thank you for your co-operation.
Kind regards
Mrs Rose
